# Install Commentify

> Require the MIT package from Packagist, migrate, and choose Tailwind or Bootstrap.

Commentify is the free Livewire thread. Install it from Packagist. [Commentify Pro](https://docs.commentify.pro/quickstart.md) is a separate package that adds the JSON API, React and Vue, and moderation tools on top of the same `comments` table.

## Requirements

* PHP 8.3+
* Laravel 12 or 13
* [Livewire 4](https://livewire.laravel.com/docs/installation) (Alpine is included)
* Tailwind CSS v4 or Bootstrap 5

## Install

```bash theme={null}
composer require usamamuneerchaudhary/commentify
php artisan migrate
```

Laravel discovers the service provider when the package comes from Packagist. A path repository or symlink sometimes skips discovery. Register it in `bootstrap/providers.php` in that case:

```php theme={null}
Usamamuneerchaudhary\Commentify\Providers\CommentifyServiceProvider::class,
```

## Publish what you need

The package views, language files, and config work without publishing. Publish a tag only when you want to override it.

```bash theme={null}
php artisan vendor:publish --tag=commentify-config
php artisan vendor:publish --tag=commentify-lang
php artisan vendor:publish --tag=commentify-migrations
```

Views, when you need custom markup:

```bash theme={null}
php artisan vendor:publish --tag=commentify-tailwind-views
php artisan vendor:publish --tag=commentify-bootstrap-views
```

Published views live in `resources/views/vendor/commentify/` and override the package. You merge them yourself on later releases. 4.0 added `partials/guest-fields.blade.php`.

Filament views, if you customize the admin resources:

```bash theme={null}
php artisan vendor:publish --tag=commentify-filament-views
```

## CSS framework

```php theme={null}
'css_framework' => 'tailwind', // tailwind | bootstrap
```

The setting also picks Livewire's pagination theme. Switch it at any time. Tailwind projects can publish the package Tailwind file with `--tag=commentify-tailwind-config`.

### Dark mode

`theme` is `light`, `dark`, or `auto` (the default, which follows the system).

Tailwind v4 needs the dark variant. Livewire Flux already includes it:

```css theme={null}
@import "tailwindcss";
@custom-variant dark (&:where(.dark, .dark *));
```

Bootstrap 5 uses `data-bs-theme="dark"`. No extra CSS.

## Next

Add the trait and the component on [Usage](https://docs.commentify.pro/usage.md). Sorting, markdown, approval, and the 4.3 thread loader are on [Threads](https://docs.commentify.pro/threads.md). The full key list is on [Configuration](https://docs.commentify.pro/configuration.md).

## Commentify Pro

The free package is the Livewire thread. The JSON API, React and Vue, spam pipeline, and Filament queue are [Commentify Pro](https://docs.commentify.pro/quickstart.md).
